There are other books I read.

The Design of Everyday Things
Donald A. Norman

Author expresses very good ideas but the book could be half if its size.

The Career Programmer
Christopher Duncan , Foreword by  John Robbins

Not that I would agree with author recommendations, but he gives good description of software industry realities. Worth reading. Complementary reading: Joel on Software.

Joel On Software.

Joel Spolsky

Quite interesting vantage point: Joel has nice balance of personalities: techologist, mentor and manger. This is really rare combination and I strongly suggest reading this book. And you do not even have to buy it: most of its content is available online on Joel's site http://www.joelonsoftware.com/

Emotional Design: Why We Love (or Hate) Everyday Things
Donald A. Norman

First 2/3rd of the book are interesting enough to justify buying and reading the book.

Succeeding with Open Source
Bernard Golden

Full of nice executive summaries, really helpful when it is necessary to convince somebody to start using Open Source.
